Watermarking

Launched, October 2024

A short video of a user in an active Google Meet call on the web. The user clicks on the host controls on the bottom of the right-hand side of the screen and a window pops up. The user chooses “Add a watermark” and a message pops up in the bottom left-hand corner: “A watermark is now shown on all devices”. The user then closes the host controls.

Watermarking allows you to automatically add a visual overlay to your presented content and video feeds during a Google Meet call that is unique to each individual participant. This overlay includes the meeting code and the email address of the participant viewing the content, discouraging unauthorised sharing and helping presenters share materials with confidence. Watermarks can be turned on or off by hosts and co-hosts.

Take notes for me

Launched, August 2024

A short video of a user demonstrating how to use the Gemini “Take notes for me” feature during an active Google Meet call on the web. The video begins with the user clicking the pencil icon in the top-right corner of the screen. Upon clicking this, a pop-up menu titled “Take notes with Gemini” appears. The menu provides information about where the meeting notes will be saved and offers options to enable meeting transcripts and recordings. The user hovers their cursor over the “Start taking notes” button.

“Take notes for me” lets you use Gemini to automatically capture meeting notes, create action items for attendees, catch up on the discussion if you join late and generate post-meeting summaries, which include discussion points and action items, that can be shared with other participants. It allows you to focus on the conversation, presentations and other in-meeting activities without the distraction of manually capturing what’s being said. Notes are shared in a Google Doc after the call where they can be edited. With the combination of Gemini’s Take notes for me, a meeting transcript and a video recording, you can keep a perfect record of the meeting.

Adaptive audio

Launched, May 2024

An animated video showing the Google Meet “adaptive audio” feature in action. There is a photograph of five people sitting around a table. Each person is using a laptop to join a video call. A blue audio icon appears over each laptop to indicate that there is sound coming from the devices. As the icons disappear, a blue line is displayed, drawing a connection between the laptops. This is followed by a Google Meet pop-up reading “Keep your mic and speakers on. To avoid feedback, your audio is merged with other devices nearby”.

Adaptive audio allows teams to use multiple laptops in the same space to join a video call without causing echoes or disruptive audio feedback. It can help create a better audio experience in non-traditional meeting spaces when dedicated meeting rooms and Google Meet Hardware may be unavailable. If Meet detects that there are multiple laptops in a room connecting to the same video call, it switches to adaptive audio mode and combines the microphones and speakers of the laptops.

Studio lighting

Launched, January 2024

A short video of a user demonstrating how to use the Gemini studio lighting feature in Google Meet. The user is looking at their self-view from the effects panel. On the right-hand side, under the “Appearance” tab, the user turns the “Studio lighting” feature on with a toggle. The user selects “custom” from the dropdown and two adjustable settings appear. The user adjusts the position of “Light 1” and then changes the colour and brightness of “Light 2”.

Studio lighting brings adjustable settings for lighting position, brightness and colour into Google Meet. These settings can be used to mimic studio-quality lighting so that you can present yourself in the best way possible during a meeting.

Studio sound

Launched, January 2024

Studio sound automatically enhances audio quality from Bluetooth headsets and dial-in participants. It recreates higher audio frequencies to ensure everyone in a meeting can hear you clearly and is automatically applied when Google Meet noise cancellation is enabled.

Studio look

Launched, August 2023

A short video of a user demonstrating how to use the Gemini studio look feature in Google Meet. The user is looking at their self-view from the effects panel. On the right-hand side, under the “Appearance” tab, the user turns the “Studio look” feature on with a toggle. This increases the sharpness of the user’s video and puts them in focus.

Studio look enhances your visual appearance in meetings by increasing the sharpness of your video and reducing noise. This helps ensure that you are always in focus, even in low-light conditions or when using low-quality webcams.

Generate a custom background

Launched, August 2023

A screenshot of a user in the Google Meet green room creating a background image with Gemini before joining a call. The user has entered the prompt “An illustration of magical forest” and is presented with four different AI-generated background images from which to choose. The user has selected the first image. A preview of what the background will look like during the meeting is shown to the user.

Express yourself creatively and generate personalised backgrounds for your Google Meet calls, all whilst maintaining the privacy of your surroundings. To create an AI-generated background, give Google a prompt describing what you’d like to see and Gemini will generate several images based on your prompt that can be applied before or during a meeting.

Translated captions

Exepected to launch, January 2025

A short video showing two people in a Google Meet call conducted in English. One of the users enables live captions so that they can read in Spanish.

Translate one language spoken during a meeting to live captions in another language. This allows everyone to access the meeting in their preferred language, removing barriers that would otherwise hinder communication. You can translate to and from 69 languages, including 🇬🇧 English, 🇫🇷 French, 🇩🇪 German, 🇯🇵 Japanese, 🇪🇸 Spanish and many more.

View the full list of supported languages here.

đź’ˇ Note: whilst translated captions in Google Meet have been available for multiple tiers of Google Workspace subscriptions, from January 2025 they will become available exclusively to organisations with the following Gemini for Google Workspace add-ons: Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, and AI Meetings and Messaging.

Attend for me

Announced, August 2023

If you’re double-booked or facing an unexpected conflict, you can send Gemini to attend a meeting on your behalf. Add any questions or comments you’d like addressed during the meeting directly to the Google Calendar invitation and Gemini will make them visible to attendees for discussion. After the meeting, you’ll receive a summary document with notes and action items to keep you informed about what you missed.

Translate for me

Announced, August 2023

With translate for me, Gemini can automatically detect and translate multiple languages spoken during a Google Meet call in real-time. This can be a valuable tool for meetings involving people who speak various languages. Automatic language detection means you don’t need to know what language is being spoken to set the translation; Gemini handles it for you.

Dynamic tiles and face detection

Announced, August 2023

The dynamic tiles feature helps ensure that meeting room participants can be seen clearly during a call by analysing the room’s video feed, identifying people’s presence and automatically creating individual, pinnable video tiles for each person in the room. It is compatible with Google Meet Hardware devices and improves individual representation without the need for additional cameras.

Face detection further enhances inclusivity by allowing the names of individual meeting room participants to be displayed on their dynamic video tile. This makes it easier for everyone on the call to know who is speaking.

Gemini side panel

Announced, August 2023

Chat with Gemini about your meeting and its content via the Gemini side panel in Google Meet. Ask Gemini questions like “Tell me more about the summary”, “What did Dani say about the launch”, “Find related documents” and much more – all without leaving the meeting window. The Gemini side panel is already available in Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides.

Real-time teleprompter

Announced, August 2023

Whilst presenting in Google Meet, Gemini’s teleprompter follows your voice to guide you through your Google Slides speaker notes in real-time, helping you deliver presentations with confidence.

Dynamic layouts

Announced, August 2023

The dynamic layouts feature intelligently adjusts your meeting view. Specifically, the meeting layout automatically changes from a traditional grid view to a more appropriate layout based on the number of participants, the content being shared and the type of device you’re using, ensuring the most optimal viewing experience.
